Residential Care Group Homes
Maier Design Group has enjoyed a long-term relationship with the Corporation for Independent Living (CIL). Working collaboratively Maier Design Group and CIL have endeavored to create safe, warm and inviting homes throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts for adults and children with multiple disabilities who require varying levels of assistance and care. The projects range from a small bathroom renovations to new construction six bedroom homes. All of the projects are designed to be fully accessible in a way that reinforces a residential non-institutional look.
Blue Back Radiology
When Women’s Health USA chose one of the new buildings in West Hartford’s Blue Back Square as the location for their new radiology suite they were faced with several extremely difficult design challenges. Maier Design Group took these challenges in stride, creating a unique and dynamic space that overcame the complexity of outfitting a highly specialized radiology suite on the fifth floor of an existing building while providing the client with a warm, inviting, comfortable spa-like atmosphere, in contrast to the clinical and sterile environments of the past.
HARC Arde Bulova Center
This 15,000 square foot state-of-the-art integrated rehabilitation center in Hartford, CT offers a variety of therapies in a sensory rich environment to adults with severe multiple physical and developmental disabilities. The center combines traditional interventions including speech therapy, physical therapy and occupational therapy with New Age Eastern treatments such as massage shiatsu, aromatherapy, sensory activities, art, music and movement.
The center was specifically designed to provide occupational or physical therapy to medically fragile people who have complex special needs in a dignified and durable setting. The project encompasses the entire 15,000 SF second floor of HARC’s facility and features three distinct suites. The Program Suite focuses on communications, pre-vocational computer skills, music, dance, arts and crafts and cooking. A central station allows staff to monitor and interact with open learning areas while classrooms and skill areas are placed around the perimeter of the suite. The Sensory Suite has massage rooms, a fully functional hair and manicure salon and a sensory room all designed to calm the spirit, promote positive touch experiences and develop cognitive abilities in people who might not otherwise have access to these types of facilities. Finally, The Occupational and Physical Therapy Suite provides typical OT/PT services to people who require acute and long-term clinical services to keep their bodies limber and comfortable. Set up as a fitness room with resilient flooring, this space also contains smaller treatment rooms for individual services.
Hartford Eye Physicians
Maier Design Group was commissioned by the property manager of Avon Wellness Center in Avon, CT to provide design services to divide and renovate an existing single tenant space to accommodate two separate tenants. Hartford Eye Physicians required customized exam rooms to accommodate an eye chart machine and refraction desk and separate areas for specific eye testing machines in the 1,500 SF space they were leasing. The project included modifying an existing corridor to fulfill the tenant’s requirement of controlled lighting environments in the exam rooms while also exposing the hallway to natural light previously enclosed in an office. New ceilings, lighting, millwork, plumbing and finishes were included in the completed project renovation.
