David B. Arai, AIA

As President of the firm, Mr. Arai is responsible for project team management including allocation
of team members, scheduling, coordination and technical review. Mr. Arai maintains specific
project involvement on all projects by directing design concepts.

Mr. Arai began his career with Maier Design Group as Project Architect in 1993, and was appointed Vice President in January of 2000. During this time he was in charge of a wide range of projects while also using his in-depth computer graphics and programming background to manage the CAD systems for the company. In the fall of 2008, he assumed majority ownership of the company.

During his career Mr. Arai has worked on a multitude of various projects including complex infrastructure repair projects, historic restorations and adaptive reuse projects including multiple projects now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, ADA compliance projects and accessible design modifications for individuals with disabilities, interior renovations and space planning projects, educational facilities, apartments and condominiums, banks, industrial buildings, TV and radio broadcast studios and TV edit production control environments. His work has spanned from residential additions to entire campus redevelopments, ground-up construction to small scale interior renovations and high-end entertainment uses to religious spaces.

Prior to his employment with Maier Design Group, Mr. Arai was employed in Pittsburgh, PA working on several large church projects, adaptive reuse projects for surrounding municipalities and several car dealerships.

Eric LaChapelle, Project Manager

Pennsylvania State University

As Project Manager, Mr.LaChapelle oversees the project from the early stages of development
until the project is completed. This role also includes responsibility for field work supporting
concept development, document preparation, internal coordination and construction
administration.

With over twenty years of professional experience, Mr. LaChapelle has been a full-time employee with Maier Design Group LLC since 1995. He has excellent design and graphic skills and is particularly adept at developing three-dimensional computer-generated models of architectural building concepts.

Mr. LaChapelle has completed numerous challenging renovations and building projects for both residential and commercial clients. His work includes multiple school renovation projects in the greater Hartford area and several renovation projects for UCONN. Work on historic projects includes construction of a 50,000 SF performance arts magnet school, an 18,000 SF tenant fit-out for Foley Carrier Services and renovation of a 45,000 SF former office building all at the historic Colt Gateway.

Mr. LaChapelle has managed many complex projects for the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation at Foxwoods Resort & Casino as a part of Maier Design Group’s on-call contract with the casino. Most notable of these projects was the design and construction of New England’s only World Poker Tour venue, a 61,000 SF renovation project at the Rainmaker Casino. From 2004 thru 2008 he provided architectural support for the development of Foxwoods’ yearly Capital Expense Budget and since 2008 he has completed projects for Pandora, Rolex, Chopard, Judith Ripka, FayDa, and Omega Watch.

Mr. LaChapelle also has many years of bank experience for Fleet Bank and New Alliance Bank including New Alliance’s flagship prototype branch located in the XL Center in downtown Hartford. He recently completed the new Franklin Trust Federal Credit Union Building on Franklin Avenue in Hartford.

Meghan Demay, Interior Designer

Endicott College
Bachelor of Science, Interior Design 2007

As Interior Designer, Ms. Demay is responsible for balacing the aesthetics, safety, practicality
functionality, and style of interior client spaces. This role includes consideration of how different
colors, textures, furniture, lighting and spaces work together to meet client needs and enhance
the design.

Ms. Demay has been a full time employee with Maier Design Group since 2007 and has worked on a variety of residential, retail, commercial and educational projects. She has worked on adaptive reuse projects to convert a 24,000 SF masonry and heavy timber mill building into professional offices as well as converting the former American Paper Goods factory into 71 market-rate condominiums. She was involved in several renovation projects at the Mystic Hilton in Mystic, Connecticut including the Mini and Junior Suites, ADA Guestrooms and Executive Lounge. She assisted in instituting the standards for the Foxwoods back-of-house signage and designing the high-end jewelry boutiques at the MGM Grand expansion for Foxwoods retail operations. Ms. Demay is also part of the team responsible for the development and implementation of new, comprehensive furniture, finishes and space planning design standards for Legrand NA, an international company headquartered in West Hartford.

Ms. Demay was instrumental in the redevelopment of the Hartford Square West Non-Profit Center for CIL at the former Atlantic Screw Works Factory. Working with the developer and individual tenants, Ms. Demay helped develop a set of building standards for future renovations. The resulting standards and projects have brought the interiors of this underutilized and poorly planned building back to life.

Prior to her employment with Maier Design Group, Ms. Demay worked for a variety of design firms by means of internships during her college career, gaining a strong understanding of all aspects of her field. These internships included a small residential design firm and commercial office interiors design firm and furniture showroom in New Hampshire as well as a larger residential design firm in Massachusetts. She is proficient in CAD drafting as well as several rendering and modeling programs.
